Apply for Housing
Housing Choices Tasmania manages long term housing properties across Tasmania for people on low and fixed incomes and those with specific housing needs, such as people with a disability.
Access to our tenancies occurs only through having an active public housing application with Housing Tasmania.
We cannot accept applicants that apply to us directly, or through referrals from housing support agencies.
To be eligible for housing tenants must:
- be a Tasmanian resident
- be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident
- be 16 years or older
- be a low income earner eligible for a Commonwealth Health Care Card
- not have financial assets exceeding $35,000 per household
- not own a home of their own
Rents are usually set at the start of the tenancy at a rate not exceeding 75% of market rent and not exceeding 30% of household income plus Commonwealth Rental Assistance. The allocation of properties is determined by household size to ensure an appropriate fit.
Properties are mostly units and consist of one or two bedrooms and are easily accessible to town centres.
